Delighting in Rest

This powerful message from Isaiah 58 challenges us to examine whether our spiritual practices have become empty rituals or genuine expressions of worship. We discover that God's people were going through the motions—fasting, praying, attending religious gatherings—yet missing the heart of what God desires. The passage reveals a sobering truth: we can be busy with religious activity while our hearts grow hollow, like the Tin Man who lost his heart while becoming more efficient. God redirects our attention to what truly delights Him—loosing chains of injustice, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, and spending ourselves on behalf of the vulnerable. The Sabbath becomes not a burden or mere day off, but a holy gift that recalibrates our hearts toward what matters to God.
