As I Have Loved You

What does it mean to truly love one another? Not the kind of love that comes naturally when someone is easy to get along with, but the kind that moves toward people even when it costs us something. In John 13, we find Jesus in his final hours before the cross, and rather than spending that time on anything else, he focuses on a single, urgent command: love one another as I have loved you. That word 'as' changes everything. The standard is no longer how we want to be treated or how we naturally feel toward others. The standard is Jesus himself, the one who knelt down and washed the feet of the very man who was about to betray him.
